"The fact that I know my business is running smoothly and it doesn't need me at every particular juncture means that I can take some time off for myself"

Yes, you read that correctly. Plan to take some time out of your business. Now you might think that if I take some time out of my business, I might not generate income.
There are aspects of the business that will fall apart and could cost money. So, let’s add some context to what I just shared with you. When taking some time off there’s quite possibly going to be some cracks, some gaps, some breakdowns, but how you approach this makes all the difference. You need to take responsibility for these gaps and go to work on filling them while identifying what else could be missing.
Guess what happens next time you may want to take some time off? Ideally, the same situations won’t happen again, and you start to build a business that is less reliant on you personally being there every day.
Now, let’s just rewind it a little bit.
Let’s say you gave yourself three months to get ready for taking a week or two off, and you set that as a goal.
You sat down with the key people on your team, and you said, guys, it’s important for me and my family to take some time off, because it helps keep me balanced. You’ve probably noticed I’ve been a bit cranky recently, you know, being short-tempered. That’s not who I want to be for you as a business owner. So, what I want is your support with me taking some time out, allowing you to do your best work without me being here every day.
So, let’s sit down, let’s map out a plan, and I’d love you to share with me which aspects of the business, we need to write some systems, some procedures, some checklists, and how we can practice putting these in place before I leave?
Can you see if you take this approach by being responsible for everything that shows up in your business, not just blaming people when things don’t go to plan, that you are able to work towards taking some extra time off.
Leading up to it, you’re going to have a business that can operate more efficiently without you.
On the back end of your time off, you sit down with your team, and you evaluate what worked, what didn’t work, and if you were to do the two weeks again, what would you do differently?
It’s not hard to see how you now have an even more valuable business than before you went on holidays. Not only do you come back refreshed, recharged, energized, and ideally enthusiastic, but you are also creating an even better relationship with your family or whoever you are going away with, and most importantly, a better relationship with yourself.
If you want some support around putting structures in place to have a business that works for you, please be in touch.
